- External:First you must learn what reality is. Then you have to discover what reality is not.
- Internal: Next, you have to look inside. See what you are. Then see what you are not.
- Merge both sides of each equation to form your very own subjective realty. The more factors integrated from each side, the richer your life experience will be.

An Instruction Manual For Existentialists
I just had another thought on life. If it came with an instruction booklet that would perhaps help to ease some of this existential anxiety, it should read as follows:

I think the 'what is reality' question is interesting especially. I remember a passage from 'Lord of Illusions', the Clive Barker movie with Scott Bakula as Harry D'Amour, private eye.
He was talking to an attendant at a mental institution and they were talking about reality and what this one patient's perception of reality was. Harry was talking about her and saying that maybe she wasn't crazy, maybe the things she was seeing were actual real, just not easy to believe.
The attendant disagreed, saying that there are certain things that are based in reality, then there are things that we generally agree are not reality. The attendant said that's what holds us together...agreeing on what's real and what's not.
Just a thought. But can 7 billion people truly agree on what's real and what's not? I don't think so because not 1,000 years ago half the people thought the world was flat and half thought the world was round.
I don't know where I'm going with that, but your post made me think of that movie discussion right away. Cheers.
M,
Nice thought of writing Life's manual on your own, i agree with the inherent dichtomy
that you've brought out here
but, i would like to add that the there are a lot ( infinite ) of probablistic factors that will shape this awareness, and i like the way
you didnt add time as a factor.
Cause, "time" is really insignificant in the generalisation of these concepts.
Its amazing how the system of education we have, never emphasizes
on the end, the knowledge we gain is worthless when you don't use it to unlearn the psuedo reality that we experience
waiting to see more on this from you..
P
You forgot to add the most of important part of your Life manual:
"Handle with care"
:-)
Thanks for your comments! They really give me something to look forward to after a long, boring day at work.
Joe...
I've never seen that movie, but now I will definitley look for it....caught my interest...
'What holds us together...agreeing on what's real and what's not...." Well put. I like it.
"Can 7 billion people truly agree on what's real and what's not? I don't think so" You're right on. THEY CAN'T. Hence SUBJECTIVE reality.
Peeps...
"inherent dichtomy "....wow, your use of language is impressive...had to comment on this one..nice....
I don't like philosophizing using time as a factor...I think that for the most part it just adds to the illusion. I would like to write something specifically on the philosophy of time itself sometime though. :-)
I TOTALLY AGREE and loved how you phrased this. We must "unlearn the psuedo reality that we experience". Maybe this is why enlightenment is such a difficult thing to attain...many don't even realize that this IS a pseudo reality, let alone the concept of having to 'unlearn' it. Well said, P.
PS...You can be sure you'll see more of this from me....right now it gives my life some kind of meaning
Nothing...thanks for the reminder...although sometimes its good to throw caution to the wind!
:-)

Hmmm... "Pseudo reality", interesting term. I mean reality itself being an illusion and than "pseudo reality" is opposite of it..
Is pseudo reality real?
:-)
@Nothing
u said,
"I mean reality itself being an illusion"
i called this illusion,
"Psuedo reality" :)
